In the rush to get on mobile, it is easy to stumble a little and make a few mistakes. Some of these errors can be caught in time and corrected before they can balloon. Certain other mistakes, unfortunately, are recognized only after much money and effort has been spent on them. One such costly mistake can be investing in a mobile app for your business when it may not need one. While having a mobile app works for some businesses, for certain others, it’s simply not a good idea. Here are 3 reasons why a mobile app may not be good for your business.
Your target consumer group
Before investing in building a mobile app, it is a good idea to get to know your target consumer group better. Take the effort to do some research, because not all demographics behave the same way when on mobile. If, for instance, you target group either does not have the time or the inclination to download a mobile app, you’re clearly wasting your time.
The frequency of your updates
If your business is the type where you constantly need to send out updates to your customers, then by all means, invest in a mobile app. A mobile app is also useful if you want to allow customers to book appointments or shop online. But if all you really need is to get your customers to locate you or find your nearest branch, then perhaps you’re better off with a mobile website. This is because mobile is not a static medium and your customers are eventually going to forget about your app if you’re not updating it frequently enough.
A mobile app is expensive
For small businesses which are hoping to get customers who are on mobile, spending on a mobile app can be prohibitively expensive. Just because everyone else is doing it, doesn’t mean you have to. With a little creativity, you can have a fantastic mobile marketing campaign without developing an app. In fact, a lot can be done with a great mobile website or clever use of QR codes.
